Welcome Message by Chair Person Prof. M S Swaminathan

I extend my welcome to all those who are interested in Food and Nutrition Security and in achieving Goals 1 and 2 of the UN Sustainable Development Decade to the International Conference on Fisheries and Aquaculture. 97% of the world’s water is sea water. There are great opportunities for both inland and marine aquaculture. The transition from food to nutrition security can be facilitated by greater attention to fisheries and aquaculture. I therefore recommend to all interested in sustainable food and nutrition security to participate in the International Summit on Fisheries and Aquaculture.

Scientific Federation like to take this opportunity to welcome all of you to International Summit on Fisheries and Aquaculture which is to be held during August 13-14, 2018 Amsterdam, Netherlands. Through our theme 'Advancing & Expanding Aquaculture Sector Focused on Developmental, Toxicological and Transgenic Scientific Research', the conference will analyze the recent advancements and new modes that can be enforced to the research to take Fisheries and Aquaculture, one step further.

Fisheries and Aquaculture Conference that brings together a unique and International mix of experts, like aquaculture engineers, researchers and decision makers both from academia and industry across the globe to exchange their knowledge, experience and research innovations.

Aquaculture is the fastest growing primary industry in Australia; in fact it is the fastest growing food production sector in the world. With limited room for expansion in wild catch fisheries together with an ever-increasing world population, there is a heavy reliance on aquaculture as the means for fish production to meet world demand. The Australian aquaculture industry in 2007-2008 was valued at $868 million, and accounted for approximately a third of the total gross value production of the seafood industry. Most of the aquaculture species in Australia are high value species aiming for export markets. Australia's fishing and aquaculture industry and the government agencies that manage and support it, must adapt and evolve at a pace to effectively respond to these changes if the industry and the natural resources upon which the industry relies are to remain viable and sustainable.
