Prior to joining Academia in 2012, he served in the Indian Navy as practicing Marine Engineer and commissioned officer from 1985 -2012. He took premature retirement to pursue his passion in the field of education to transform the younger generation towards responsible global leaders.He has been instrumental in setting up three new universities in the leadership position. He accumulated extensive hands on experience in all major technologies while serving onboard ships and submarines built in US, France, Germany, Russia, UK and India. He has worked in the different capacities onboard ships as Chief Engineer, Controller Material Planning, Equipment Health Monitoring and Machinery Certification Authority, Marine Engineering Trainer, Curriculum designer, Policy Maker and Production Manager etc. His significant on board warships appointments for 12 years include INS Vikrant, INS Viraat, INS Taragiri and INS Shakti. Dr. GL Sharma belongs to that rare breed Engineering professionals who has all throughout his career was concurrently, yet actively, involved with Academia. He was the Founder Director of Four School and founder member of Amity University Kolkata, Founder Director and Dean Engineering of JECRC University Jaipur. He is fellow of Institution of Engineers, Fellow of Marine Engineers Institutionand life member of Condition Monitoring Society of India. He received his B. Tech (Mechanical) from Naval College of Engineering, Pune, and M. Tech (Systems & Control Engineering) from IIT Bombay and Ph D from IIT Bombay. He also hold Bachelor’s degree in Humanities and Masters in Human resource Management. He has more than 45 publications and has won the awards of best theory paper (1998) and best technical paper (2012). He has also undertaken various project during his long spanned engineering career. His area of Interest include Machinery Health Monitoring, Automation and Control Engineering.
